At its heart, Shoreview Natives cares deeply about supporting local landscapes and helping people feel confident taking the first steps toward native plant restoration.
Shoreview Natives is led with a hands-on, practical approach—working closely with local partnerships, community organizations, and our dedicated customers to offer thoughtfully selected plants, opportunities for education, and native landscape installations that create healthier landscapes, bringing more joy and connection to the people who live with them.
Dan Schutte & Kristen Pless
Dan Schutte and Kristen Pless are the owners of Shoreview Natives, a family-run business built around a shared belief that small changes in our landscapes can make a big difference in our quality of life. What started as a passion for native plants and healthier ecosystems grew into a business focused on making native plants easier to access for homeowners, communities, and local partners. .
Jen Stenersen
Jen is a core member of the Shoreview Natives team and our Greenhouse Manager. With over 20 years of hands-on experience growing native plants and supporting restoration-focused projects, she works closely with customers, partners, and homeowners to guide plant selection and project planning. She finds the greatest joy in sharing her knowledge and experience, helping take the guesswork out of ecological landscaping and supporting successful, regionally appropriate restoration and native planting projects.
All of this wouldn’t be possible without the many hands, hearts, and hard work of our amazing crew.
why plant native plants
Responsible, natural landscapes.
Native plants are low maintenance and can support aesthetic, ecological, economic, and social goals.
Improve water quality.
Native plant rain gardens and bioretention basins mitigate stormwater runoff, improving the quality of water that flows into our precious lakes and streams.
Less watering, no mowing. Put away the lawn mower and sprinkler. The deep roots of native plants infiltrate water more efficiently than grass lawns, requiring less water than other plants unsuited for our region.
Pollinators like us. Support declining populations of pollinator species such as monarch butterflies and bees by providing an exceptional and beautiful habitat.
Well-being.
Research shows that people experience a greater sense of well-being and happiness when they observe and interact with diverse natural environments.
