DIY Assist: Hands-On Native Garden Installation

Want to create a native garden but enjoy being hands-on? Our DIY Assist option is a great way to bring your project to life while saving money and learning the process along the way.

Step 1: Submit a DIY Assistance Request
Start by filling out our DIY Assistance Request Form. This helps us learn about your space, your goals, your experience level, and which parts of the project you’d like help with. Some people want support with planning and materials, while others want coaching through every step of the installation.

From there, we’ll determine the best next step for your project, which may include reviewing photos and details you provide or scheduling a site visit if needed.

After reviewing your request, we can provide an estimate for materials and support, including delivering everything you’ll need and guiding you and your team through the process while you handle the labor. When helpful, we can also meet you on-site to demonstrate each step, showing you exactly how to complete the work in your own space before you continue the project. This approach typically saves homeowners about 40–45% compared to a fully installed project.

Our DIY Assist projects generally follow these steps:

1. Site Preparation
You install black plastic over the future planting area to naturally kill the existing turf or vegetation. This process usually takes several weeks (for example, a sunny site that has plastic installed in May is typically ready for planting by mid-July).

2. Soil Preparation
Once the area underneath is completely dead, you remove the plastic. We then bring compost and till the soil to prepare it for planting.

3. Weed Suppressant Installation
We provide the weed suppressant matting we use in our installations. We can show you how to place it correctly on your site, and you complete the installation.

4. Planting Your Garden
Finally, we deliver a curated selection of native plants chosen for your site conditions, goals, and aesthetic preferences. We lay the plants out in the space for you, and you plant them.

This process gives you the satisfaction of building your own native garden while still benefiting from our planning, materials, and expertise along the way.
